In September 2016 we have bought Winni & Pinni from begging children living on the street, in a city close to Siracusa. They had clipped their wings to hinder the two budgies from flying. They made their own ‘business’ with the birds and offered them to people for paid photo shootings. The animals were undernourished and didn’t look very healthy. One of them was infested with acarians at the beak. We felt with the birds. When the children put them onto our shoulders without asking us before we didn’t want to return them anymore. According to the children they had been put into a shoe box and fed with grains.
We wanted to put an end to their suffering, so we bought them off these children. At present they are in vet care and separate from the big aviary and the other birds to avoid eventual infections. As you can see on the right the wings have regrown and the beak has begun to heal.
Im September 2016 kauften wir Winni & Pinni von bettelnden Strassenkindern ab, die sich in der Stadt nah an Siracusa aufhielten. Sie hatten den beiden Wellensittiche die Flügel gestutzt um sie ans fliegen zu hindern. Sie machten mit den Vögeln ihr eigenes “Business” und liessen Menschen mit ihnen für ein Foto ablichten die dafür Geld zahlen sollten. Die Tiere waren unterversorgt und sahen nicht sehr gesund aus. Der eine von ihnen hatte Milben und der Schnabel war bereits befallen. Wir hatten Mitleid mit den Tieren und nachdem die Kinder uns ohne zu fragen die beiden Wellensittiche auf die Schultern setzten, wollten wir diese nicht mehr an sie zurück geben. Laut den Kindern haben sie diese in Schuhkarton eingesperrt und sie mit Körnern gefüttert …
Das grosses Leid, welches sie zu ertragen hatten, sollte ein Ende nehmen und so kauften wir sie ihnen ab. Sie stehen aktuell unter tierärztlicher Aufsicht und sind von der grossen Voliere und den anderen Vögeln getrennt um Ansteckungsgefahr zu vermeiden. Das rechte Bild zeigt wie sie heute aussehen, die Flügel nachgewachsen, der Schnabel fast ausgeheilt.
